about

“Throw your hands up until you touch cloud. Music amplified, lemme turn it up loud.” – LIVING PROOF “MOSH PIT”

2004: K-Os told us, “Hip-hop isn’t dead, it’s really the mind of the emcee.”

2009: Nas said, “Hip-hop is dead.”

2015: You’d be hard pressed not to believe it but as the great teacher KRS-One told us, “Hip-hop culture is eternal,” so there must be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Abstract Artform is an award winning up-and-coming producer/rapper from Winnipeg, a city literally in the middle of Canada. His determination to represent the nation on a worldwide scale has pushed him to travel and tour, release four solo full-length projects and produce music with and for some of Canada’s and America’s greatest emcees. This project is no different.

Stemming from his small town background and eventual move into the city, Abstract has maintained that relationships are the most important aspect of his success. One such relationship was with Ceeknow the Doodlebug, one of the legendary members of the Grammy award winning Digable Planets. The Philadelphia rapper Doodlebug needs very little introduction. His smooth flow over jazz based instrumentals is a staple in almost every Hip-Hop heads collection. Doodlebug’s career has taken him further than most rappers could imagine. He was signed to a major label, Late Night Show performances, and even performing at the Soul Train Music awards. Doodlebug was and still is a Hip-Hop icon.

How did this relationship happen? Hip-Hop. So how can it truly be dead?
A veteran and a young buck. An American and a Canadian. Black and White. These labels mean nothing. This is purely the connection of two people who love Hip-Hop, making music that has meaning, depth and most of all goes in pretty f#@%’n heavy.

Two people from opposite sides of the spectrum have stepped outside of the comfort zone of what people recognize from them stylistically and have landed on some loud new ground. Heavily influenced by prog rock records and in the same way Nas used Iron Butterfly to tell us Hip-Hop is dead, these two have used the same tone to show us that Hip-Hop is not at all dead.

Their word is bond.

Hip-hop is eternal.

They are Living Proof.
